During Sherlock’s three years absence he chose to go undercover with a small airline, well, airdot company. In return for temporally taking his place as Captain, Sherlock found the man a girlfriend, who currently works at St Barts.
John often does doubletakes when Molly introduces him to her new boyfriend, but it isn’t Sherlock and Sherlock isn’t coming back. He stops going to St Barts after that, despite Mycroft’s insistence he should take a holiday. He could not bare to fly with MJN, not after meeting the new captain.
